English Dub Review: Platinum End: “Last Supper”
Overview: With Yuri (Christina Vee) rescued and assembled with the rest of the God candidates, Mirai (Alejandro Saab), Saki (Laura Post) and the rest of the gang decide just who should be next in line for the role of God.
Our Take: After the god candidates rescue Yuri from the authorities, they all have a group discussion to decide just who the next god candidate will be. A decision of this magnitude is obviously one that should not be taken lightly in the grand scheme of things for the world’s future. And yet it feels like just that with how abruptly swift the matter is concluded.
The gang decides that their resident edgelord, as Mari so aptly puts it, Shuji, should be the almighty lord himself. This is due to him having no attachments to the world as a whole in that of friends or family, despite the glaring fact that he has an older brother, allowing him to perform his job as God effectively without missing anyone or anything. Besides the fact that he still cares for his brother and plans to make his brother’s life happy when he becomes God, everyone nonchalantly takes this depressed 12-year-old at his word that he will not force any nefarious or deplorable ideals onto the world and so carelessly at that. Mirai is starting to look like a brain surgeon compared to everyone else with how he voices his issues with him some of Shuji’s ideas he hopes to implements when he becomes God like bestowing angelic powers to those who need them and allowing suicide for those that have ‘good’ reasons. One can only hope more lively discussion goes on towards the end.
The last god candidate, Gaku Yoneda, a revered professor, is one of the most underwhelming yet. Yoneda explaining away his vile nature detracts from his villainous introduction and character, leaving little to be found in the way of uniqueness. It’s not until his angel meets with the other God candidates that a picture begins to be painted that shows how intellectual he is wanting to understand them in-depth. Besides his mind, he is also cautious in only agreeing to consider meeting them in person until he hears each God candidate’s ideology.
All of these form an intriguing enough amalgamation that serve to show where the danger may lie in Gaku more than him talking about himself in the third person monotonously. As the Japanese military closes in on the God candidates public meeting, Gaku’s thought process in attempting to call off the military from attacking, believing them to be valuable, piques even more interest as to what his thinking is.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
