English Dub Review: My Senpai Is Annoying: “My Senpai Is Annoying”

Overview: Takeda (Patrick Seitz) is celebrated for landing a new sales client for the company while Igarashi (Risa Mei) thinks back to her first days at the office.

Our Take: It’s no secret that Igarashi is easy to read. However, that’s one of her cutest aspects in how immensely happy she is for Takeda in how he landed a huge client for their company. Albeit a small one, Mona forcing Igarashi to question her feelings for Takeda that she doesn’t understand is a step in the right direction, both for her character development and the plot.

Futaba being treated as a child has also been a point of contention for her that is nicely built upon in this season finale with her wanting Takeda to rely on her more. The first way she shows her development is how she nails an important presentation to a client in Takeda’s place. However, her maturity really starts to sink in when despite the jealousy she feels for other female coworkers pining after him, she gives Takeda honest advice, challenging his lackadaisical view on parties for him, to show respect for himself and also the staff by celebrating with them for their group effort accomplishment by going to the party the co-workers want to throw for him.

While eating alone, Futaba reminisces about her first day at work. It makes for a funny backstory in how Sakurai thought of her as adorable and wanted to use a casual nickname instead of an honorific and how Takeda mistook her for a student on a field trip. However, even then, Futaba shows how dignified she is when it comes down to her wanting to move on and start fresh with Takeda back then.

From here it’s just an endearing love fest with Takeda joining Futaba for dinner in wanting to be with her more than his other co-workers and recognizing how much she has grown, much to her satisfaction. Futaba, recognizing how integral Takeda has been in her development with his support and tutelage over the years, shows her appreciation and respect for him in her adorable bashful way.

With Futaba becoming a stronger salesman by the day, there will come a point where she will become a full-fledged salesperson and eventually end her partnership with Takeda. Takeda pledging to support Futaba until she gets a new partner and her actually admitting that she wants him to protect her, it makes for a sweet ending. While the ending may not make any huge developments romantically to their relationship, it, at the very least, builds upon Futaba’s character traits well showing how she has developed, how that of her relationship with Takeda has grown and the impact she has on him. A beautiful ending that is coupled with a final end credits scene showing Takeda’s continued dedication to Futaba, offering to walk her under his umbrella during a rainy day, which she is unsurprisingly annoyed and flustered by in her own cute way.
