English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Revival Party”

Overview:

Turns out the whole town is populated by the Liberation Army. This doesn’t seem like a battle The League of Villains can win, but we’ve seen them do some crazy things before. Toga and Shigaraki seemingly advanced their powers. Toga changed into Uraraka and was also able to use her quirk. Shigaraki was also able to use decay on some enemies without having to touch them. Toga is not in a good place but Twice comes to the rescue, but who will rescue him?

Our Take:

I’ve got to really give it to My Hero Academia for fleshing out the villains like this. It seems like every episode of this arc will have dedicated parts to get some background on why the villains are the way they are. Toga’s wasn’t sad or enlightening though. She’s just crazy, she more or less says it herself, to her this is “normal”. I wanted a little more from hers but it is also kind of refreshing that she just likes who she is and is okay with it.

Typically in the shounen series, the hero awakens to a new power to combat their current problem. Getting to see it happen to the villains and from their perspective no less is really cool. Not only that but it happened to two characters at the same time. I’ve mentioned that I read the manga but either I accidentally skipped some chapters or it completely slipped my mind what happened to Toga. My jaw dropped when she was able to use Ururaka’s quirk. The way they animated her using her own agility to take advantage of the quirk was really cool.

I think the next episode is going to be a sad one. Twice is such a tragic character to me, his problems are really sad. Creating clones of yourself but then constantly questioning if you’re the real one would have to be hard. I love his and Toga’s relationship and how they’re constantly rescuing each other. I hope it turns out okay for him but having to face “himself” can’t turn out well. I suppose we will find out next week.
