English Dub Review: My Hero Academia “Match 3”
Overview:
As the title states, this is the third match between 1-A and 1-B. Todoroki and his team get off to a slow start but looks like a comeback is in order. All Might has a chat with Deku, and Bakugo butts in, to hilarious effect.
Our Take:
Getting to see 1-B in action is really cool. We have only gotten glimpses of some of these characters but getting to see their quirks in action is awesome. One of the most interesting characters is Pony Tsunotori, a foreign student from America. That’s one part of dubs that can be a little annoying. The characters are already speaking English to us but when she gets mad she speaks English so we see Japanese characters at the bottom of the screen. Just a little odd to me but not that big of a deal.
Pony has an interesting character design so I was interested to see how her quirk worked. She can shoot her horns and they grow back almost immediately, and she can control up to four of them. It seems like her powers work somewhat similar to Hawks which is cool. I just really like the idea of all these heroes becoming pros in their own way, I had the same fascination with watching college players become pro players as well. Just awesome to see people’s abilities grow.
Do you know who needs no introduction to their abilities? Tetsutetsu Tetsutetsu. He’s hilarious and just decides to start smashing things because they don’t have a scout. Also, his mask has “Fe” on both sides of it which is the symbol for iron on the periodic table which I thought was a cool little touch given his ability. In case you didn’t know he more or less has the same ability as Kaminari and is able to harden his body on his becomes like iron.
Two characters that I didn’t know too much about were Sen Kaibara with his quirk Gyrate, and Juzo Honenuki with his quirk Softening. Honenuki has an interesting character design his face is kind of creepy but you wouldn’t know that with his helmet which is part of the reason I think he chose it. Kaibara can rotate any part of his body like a drill so it makes sense he would take on the martial artist Ojiro.
If 1-A didn’t just lose this was going to be my guess for the losing team. Since Todoroki hasn’t really lost much. Sure he lost in the sports festival but he wasn’t really going all out either. Next week we will get the conclusion and get to see Ida’s new “Recipro Turbo” in action. Let’s go 1-A!
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
