English Dub Review: Lupin the Third Part IV “World Dissection, Part 1”

Let’s break the walls down!

Overview (Spoilers Below)

You kids ever see Inception? This week’s episode is a lot like that as Leonardo puts everyone in Italy asleep letting only those who pass his tests to awaken.  Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Nyx, and Zenigata all pass but Rebecca and pretty much the entirety of the population have not. Turns out, when you fail Leo’s tests, you wake up with new personalities of which Rebecca becomes the first victim of so Lupin’s gotta go inside her mind and duke it out with Leo which we will see next week.

Our Take

God, this show’s artistic direction is so good, and I’m loving this Leonardo Da Vinci arc. Granted, most of this week’s episode is more of a setup, and quite frankly, I wish Adult Swim would’ve just shown the whole hour to see how this one went down, but alas, we gotta wait a week. I think the most impressive of dream sequences go to Jigen and Goemon’s as both featured killer, but grounded, action sequences. That said, the action sequences have never been the strong suit of Lupin, that’s what Dragonball is or, but in terms of the dream sequences both of those two were the best produced of the lot. Fujiko’s scene was kind of lame due to the fact that you knew both players’ poker hands even before they dealt which begs the question why we didn’t see more of Rebecca’s loss?

In any event, the penultimate episode of Lupin offers up a nice appetizer for what should be a killer finale.
