English Dub Review: Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer “Amamiya Yuuhi and the Lizard Knight”
Overview
Based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Satoshi Mizukami. The story follows Amamiya Yuuhi, an average college student, who wakes up one morning to the sight of “Sir Crescent”, a talking brown lizard claiming to be a knight. Crescent asks for him to help save the world and protect their princess from an evil mage seeking to destroy the Earth, but Yuuhi finds it hard to believe such an absurd request. However, later that day a golem created by the evil mage appears before Yuuhi. Yuuhi is about to die when suddenly…
Our Take
The craziest premiere I’ve seen in some time! And weird as hell in every way possible while still completely badass. Yuuhi is quite the reluctant protagonist not wanting any part of anything going on. I suppose when a weird talking lizard shows up and says “you’re A knight meant to protect the world” of course an individual is going to be in pure shock and disbelief. It’s comical yet a realistic moment if I’ve ever seen one. Yuuhi wanting no part of anything the lizard is selling at first did give me a good laugh at least. He just wants to live my normal existence not fight crazy monsters and save the world.
Of course, the first thing he thinks when getting that magical ring is how much can I sell this for, who couldn’t relate to that? The antics and proceedings of the episode become confounded when Samidare is introduced. And she’s a different level of crazy. She did handle that golem pretty well but the crazy trust fall at the end of the episode was wild. The animation didn’t look terrible necessarily but not great either. I’m hooked on this wild ride with the lizard knight.
For a first episode, the presentation was weird yet the animation was passable, but not groundbreaking. The art style is colorful yet gives off the vibes of anime from the 2000s which is decent depending on whether or not you liked that particular era. The scenes where that talking lizard named Sir Crescent was get chucked out the window and repeatedly coming back was pretty damn funny, and Yuuhi seems quite down to earth and comes across as both a practical and human-written protagonist. Based on observation, he seems to have a lot going on and has an apprehensive attitude towards trusting people. I hope they explore that a little more as the show progresses. And Samidare’s recruitment speech at the end was pretty damn chilling despite the absurdity of everything. All I can say is while I don’t know what to expect after this, I’m left hooked by what’s to come.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
