English Dub Review: Listeners “Freedom / Freedom”

Overview

With Mu’s awakening, Tommy has big plans to do the Freedom Project right this time. In the meantime, Echo runs into Nir on the streets of Londinium, making the events of episode 7 slowly come full circle…

Our Take

For a show that makes Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s music references look subtle, things are starting to actually pick up after the previous episode’s plot-twist involving Mu, but from what I’m trying to properly process within the show’s lore, Jimi went off the plan 10 years ago because he wanted to find a new way for humanity and the Earless to co-exist, so he helped the Earless? Also despite the claim Tommy publically made, does nobody realize the new “Jimi” is obviously a girl?

I also think Tommy became so obsessed with this idea of uniting the world through destroying the Earless that he’s going to do so by erasing everyone’s free will through Purple Haze/Teen Spirit? But the moment when Tommy straight-up shoot’s someone at point-blank range, you really should start wondering if what you’re actually doing is the right thing. I can see Sally turning against Tommy next episode, or at least that’s my takeaway.

As for the ending, it’s easy to assume that Echo at some point is gonna have to get his shit together and get a new Equipment/Mech or Player to help him fight Mu and save her and with 3 episodes left, it remains to be seen if how that particular part of his journey will unfold…
