Overview (Spoilers Below):
The basketball game is over, but now Cheng has to deliver Chen Xiao’s messages.
Our Take:
Chen Xiao’s team wins the game, which was not supposed to happen. Lu tells Cheng it’s fine though. As long as the critical event doesn’t change, the future will be unaffected.
Cheng has to deliver Chen Xiao’s messages to the team captain, Xiao’s first love, and Xiao’s mother. He does this, but something feels off. He can’t understand why doing all this is okay.
That is, until he comes to the realization that the earthquake that separated him from his parents is about to occur. Cheng realizes that all three of these people die in the earthquake and he wants to do something about it.
I was worried we’d be getting some kind of cop out resolution like I’ve come to expect with a lot of time travel plots. I couldn’t understand why it was okay to change things in this request and I was unsure of what the critical point was. Now that I know the earthquake is that point and everyone who gets a message dies in it, that makes perfect sense.
I feel for Cheng in this episode. He hasn’t seen his parents since the earthquake and he’s not even sure if they’re still alive. He wants to save the important people in Chen Xiao’s life, but really, what can he possibly do? He’s still in the photo at the end of the episode, so it’s possible that he’ll try something.
The consequences of meddling in the timeline feel so real in this show, so I’m actually afraid to see what Cheng might do. He’s already unknowingly caused one tragedy in the future, so who knows what he could change next?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
