English Dub Review: Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These “The Unbeatable Magician”

How ’bout a magic trick?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Last week we learned more about Reinhold’s background, this week, it’s all about Yang and how he eventually became a highly respected war strategist. Turns out, Yang was really close with his father who died while Yang was really young. As a result of his father’s death, Yang joins Free Planets Fleet Academy where he studied war history. It’s these teachings that eventually gain Yang the competitive edge to be a bright strategist.

Our Take

This week’s episode is yet another flashback episode, clearly introducing us to the second half of the two warring sides who are looking to destroy each other for whatever reason. Still, though, Yang’s story was fascinating and certainly worthy of the purpose it was meant to serve in making sure viewers who have been following the series to get a sense of the various set pieces and that’s what we’ve got here.

Ian Sinclair’s take on “Yang” is probably as good of an actor as you’re gonna get opposite Aaron Dismuke. Both actors have soft-spoken tendencies towards the discussion of war so it’ll be curious to see how the producers are going to ramp up the orders as time goes on to help kick up the drama.
