English Dub Review: KADO: The Right Answer

KADO: The Right Answer ushered in a massive twist.

Yaha-Kui zaShunina (Jason Liebrecht) initially appeared benevolent. However, as Kojiro Shindo (Ian Mead Moore) discovered, zaShunina had different, sinister plans for humanity. In a huge reveal, Saraka Tsukai (Mikaela Krantz) emerged as a fellow anisotropic.

zaShunina wounded Shindo, while Saraka explained her reason for abandoning the anisotropic. “Wanoraru” continues the presentation by zaShunina alongside a clone of Shindo. Unfortunately, governments and corporations alike are buying into the nanomis-hein.

As Saraka allows, there is a way to fight an anisotropic. But zaShunina as a human may have difficulty with this feat. The pair kidnaps Shinawa Kanata (Tabitha Ray) as well as Shun Hanamori (Kyle Igneczi). Shindo returns to the factory at from episode one to have them manufacture a device which allows Shindo to make a deal with zaShunina.

I like that characters from early in the series and plot threads re-emerge as important. Additionally, it’s near hearing how Shindo cobbles together a plan. There’s a bit too much melodramatic banter though. The deep relationship between Saraka and Shindo, as well as Shindo and Hanamori, works well. I also suspect that there’s a more intimate connection between Shindo and zaShunina.

Overall, the episode is pretty entertaining. But for all its buildup, the finale sort of fizzles out and prolongs the plot until the next episode. Ultimately, it’s a neat story, but I’d have enjoyed a little more action instead of what felt like an intentional cliffhanger.
