English Dub Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders “Yellow Temperance”

You’ll never look at cherries the same way again after this episode…

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Joseph uses “Hermit Purple” to psychically pick up a message using a random TV which tells them that Kakyoin is a traitor. Meanwhile, Jotaro and the young girl whose name is now revealed to be “Anne” forebodingly suspect something is off with Kakyoin after observing some odd behavior such as beating up a pick-pocket with wrestling moves and a hilariously iconic scene where he licks a cherry in a disgustingly suggestive manner. Jotaro expresses concern but tells him that Joseph’s solution to go to India is to take the train and to reserve tickets at the Singapore station.

Of course, it takes 7 mins before Jotaro realizes something is up after nearly being pushed off a balcony at the cable car station. Jotaro, believing Kakyoin to be possessed, punches him but it turns out to be an impostor who’s Stand power “Yellow Temperance” is best described as a cross between “The Blob” and the Venom Symbiote. The rest of the episode is spent on Jotaro struggling to remove that slime off his hand after his punch which helps give the episode a level of suspense and a sense of urgency, while Anne calls Joseph explaining the situation when Joseph discovers that the real Kakyoin is with him and Avdol.

Jotaro eventually catches him off guard forces him to turn off his stand power while Interrogating him, he informs Jotaro that 4 more Stand users were hired and one of them is the shitbag that killed Polnareff’s sister whose name is “Centerfold” but Jotaro gives him a beatdown when he tries to kill him again. Afterwards, Team Joestar finally takes the train to India and Jotaro gives Polnareff the info needed to seek out “Centerfold” but the episode comically ends when Jotaro gets creeped out by Kakyoin for doing almost the same cherry licking mannerism as his impostor.

Our Take.

This was both one of the creepier and funnier episodes due to some unintentional sex-jokes regarding the “cherry licking” animation that was put into those specific scenes and became the subject of jokes & memes on Tumblr during its original run in Japan years ago. The scenes with “Yellow Temperance” were quite suspenseful when he tries to kill Jotaro and the fact that they got more info regarding the “man with two right hands” that Polnareff is actively pursuing adds some emotional weight to the proceedings.

I have a feeling that shits gonna get real in episode 10.
