English Dub Review: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II “Song of Love”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Bell, Hestia and Ais head to a nearby village where they are greeted by the mayor who seems to have some familiarity with Bell’s situation. Turns out, the mayor had fallen in love with a goddess at one point that he had sworn to defend much in the same way Bell does for Hestia. The mayor dies, and the trio leaves and runs into what could be their next adversary.

Our Take

And that’s a wrap on a very strong second season of Is It Wrong To Try To Pick Up Girls In A Dungeon. The second season as a complete setup for the already announced third season happening next year of which I expect the upcoming OVA to expand upon as well. In any event, the lack of action sequences is replaced by powerful showcases of romance which works even if somewhat misplaced on characters we hadn’t really spent a lot of time with up until now.

The “Song of Love”, as the title suggests, is a dance routine that the town takes part in to find potential mates and while we do get to see a dance with Hestia and Bell, questions still remain as to whether or not Bell feels anything for the goddess other than an oath to his duty. Hopefully, this is an arc that comes to even more fruition in the next season because, today, both sides just feel too far apart for me to think that there was any sort of closure here. Hestia is doing her best to scare away the other girls, but I’m not sure how Haruhime still fits into the equation and whether she’ll be the true love interest for Bell or is she just a diversion. There’s always next year.
