English Dub Review: Infinite Dendrogram “Tomb Labyrinth”

As Ray, Nemesis and Shu celebrate the completion of Ray’s first quest, Shu explains some of Altar’s history to Ray and helps him to become a Paladin. Later, Ray and Nemesis attempt to level up but they are ambushed by a player killer. Despite his efforts to escape, Ray is killed within the game and much like most online MMO games, he has to go through a waiting period to log back in. In his case, “24 hours”.

In an effort to level-up and become stronger, Ray and Nemesis go to the Tomb Labyrinth in the royal cemetery, where they fight zombies and meet strange character named “Figaro”, one of the top-ranking players in Altar, who recommends Ray to visit the “City of Gideon”, where players can have duels and suffer no penalty for dying.

As Figaro takes his leave, Ray and Nemesis continue their fight throughout the labyrinth, but the episode ends on a comedic note when Nemesis is left terrified by the zombies and Ray does his best to console her by polishing her sword.

Our Take

Now that the first introductory episode is out of the way, the series nowhere near as bland. The pacing still feels rushed in places, which is often to be expected in a Manga-to-Anime Adaptation but it looks like the episode decided to focus more time on the chemistry between our lead characters Nemesis and Ray.

In terms of characterization, Ray is determined to improve himself and comes across as an understanding partner for Nemesis as well. While Nemesis is easily one of the most entertaining characters to watch, but her comedic scene at the end with her fighting undead creatures did give me a chuckle.

Overall a pretty decent episode. Many of the jokes are trying too hard, but it isn’t exceptionally bad either. I hope this show dedicates more time to the character development in later episodes because, at the end of the day, Infinite Dendrogram will stand or fall by the strength of its characters and whatever decisions they make to further progress the story.
