English Dub Review: Harukana Receive “Isn’t This Perfect For Us?”

I keep telling you, staring at her ass is therapeutic and keeps me calm!

Overview (Spoilers below)

This week, the episode is Haruka centric and how her mind works. After a genki introduction to her new class, and founding herself somehow popular among her new peers, Haruka noticed Kanata is focusing on regaining her lost skills. After conversing with Bombshell 1, they decide to also practice more since Haruka feels that Kanata doesn’t trust her enough due to her primitive volleyball skills.

After discovering that she was flashing while jumping like a monkey, Haruka and the gang went to swimwear shopping in preparation of the incoming tournament, managing to have a random encounter with possible rivals and a certain cameo. On the other hand, we witnessed another flashback between Bombshell 2 and Narumi regarding Kanata’s grow and eventual comeback to the beach volleyball arena. Oh yeah, Haruka confessed to Kanata via bikini embroidery. Yes, that happened.

Our take

Despite my hardcore preference, I found myself enjoying more and more of this show. The character development for each cast member, centered on Haruka this week, and her insecurities that have been bubbling beneath the surface.

A quick note here, the dub once again has come up front with an incredible adaption in the core issues. In the subs, Haruka’s main issue with her relationship with Kanata is that the latter is still using the “-chan” suffix – while denoting certain closeness and endorsement, is kind of formal- and not her plain name, as she does with Emily and Claire –highlighting a closer relationship with the twins. In the English dubs, Haruka’s issues are connected by the perceived lack of trust that Kanata has on her. This is a great wait to adopt the same problem – cultural in nature- while using a different angle to preserve the original material’s spirit.

The music was amazing, as always, and the animation has managed to keep its well-polished consistency. And, I admit, the bouncing around and back shots kept up -puns totally intended. I regret nothing!- my interest through the episode.
