English Dub Review: Getter Robo Arc “The Dragons Descendant”
Overview:
Takuma and the gang get sent on a secret mission to the Dinosaur Empire after Sho Tachibana shows up. She was there to pick up Kamui when he was a child with Jin. It looks like she’s running the show now. Meanwhile, the navy attacks some invading forces but the missiles they fire get sent back to them through a teleporter. A mysterious robot shows up covered in shadows. While charging up a big attack the shadows dissipate revealing the robot to be Shin Getter.
Our Take:
I’ll admit I am starting to feel a little lost with all these past characters and past robots getting introduced. I can imagine longtime fans would freak out when the Shin Getter makes its appearance and reveals the pilots are somehow still alive. Unfortunately, it was lost on me but to be fair I could still tell it was a big important moment so I think the show succeeded there.
I couldn’t find anything official on the voice actress for Sho Tachibana but it sounded a lot like Patricia Duran. It would be kind of funny if it is because I think that would be the second Tachibana she’s voiced with Hina Tachibana from Domestic Girlfriend being the first. I really like her and hope her character has more to do later on.
We finally got to see the third transformation of the Getter Arc. It seems that each transformation corresponds with the pilot who does it in some way. This one is bulky and built like a sumo wrestler which fits Baku perfectly. While Kamui’s is quick and built for fast attacks, and the typical Arc is balanced. I like how it kind of fits all of the different pilot’s personalities.
I am really excited to see the Dinosaur Empire in the next episode. This show is campy goodness is and is just fun to watch. But this week I did feel a little lost which I think is a bit of a detractor for people new to the franchise. Hopefully, it doesn’t keep up like that.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
