English Dub Review: Getter Robo Arc “Charge!!”

Overview: 

The Andromeda Stellaration attacks Machine Land. Kongming infiltrates the stronghold and confronts Takuma, Baku, and Kamui with a nano-machine body.

Our Take:

Bro this show is wild. I know I have been comparing it to a B-movie since the beginning but this is essentially “B-movie the anime”. Did you ever watch the SyFy channel original movies? This is an anime version of one of those. I have literally no clue what is happening at any given time. Luckily, the robot fights are cool but yeah saying I’m lost would be an understatement.

The characters are fun enough but they mostly stick to their archetypes and there hasn’t been any real growth. I don’t count finding out that Kamui could be emperor as growth. The worst thing a character can do in my eyes is to be forgettable. And unfortunately for the most part… these ones are. Takuma has his swearing and temper going for him but that’s about it.

I was really excited a few episodes into this show to see where it might go and the characters were just interesting enough. Now, I couldn’t really care less which I don’t like saying. I love mech shows and thought this would be right up my alley but it needs to get better and soon. They teased a lot of character developments early but nothing ever came of them. Now it’s just mindless fighting with science jargon thrown in for good measure.

There are still four episodes left so I’m not entirely hopeless but it needs to get going. It’s not really good for newcomers so I have to ask, who is this show for? The only people I could see enjoying this are die-hard fans of the Getter franchise and that’s it so far.
