English Dub Review: Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life! “Knife vs Saw”

Overview:

Mizarisa comes to save Hiro but for what purpose? Hiro attempts to use Kamui’s advice on Alicia and it… kind of helps? He goes to the tree where he and Martin apparently made their promise. Will this be enough to exorcise the ghost that keeps following him?

Our Take:

If I have to hear about how Hiro peed his pants one more time I am going to lose it. I get it, Hiro gets it, I am pretty sure everyone in the video game world gets it. The guy peed his pants, the game is realistic so it smells, got it. At least this time it was kind of a plot point because that was how Mizarisa found him.

Alicia and Mizarisa fight, it doesn’t last very long. For what it’s worth the animation during the fight was pretty well done. Didn’t notice anything that took me out of it at least. Alicia ended up knocking Mizarisa out so Hiro had to resort to Kamui’s guide. He attempts to stop Alicia by grabbing her boobs.

A typical anime trope yes but what was refreshing was Alicia’s reaction to it. She was not bothered in the least and even ridiculed Hiro for thinking it would work. Kind of rare in anime but I guess that is one plus to this show is the occasional trope subversion. One trope that wasn’t subverted immediately followed that. When the boob grab doesn’t work Hiro just flat out confesses love to her. Now, this does work because I mean… who wouldn’t that work on? Anyone would think twice if their childhood friend says that they have always loved them.  I doubt anything in the romance department will come of this with her being an NPC and all but hey, weirder things have happened.

Kayli Mills continues to impress as Alicia, she goes from normal to psycho so quickly and easily. I’ve always liked her as a VA but she is really impressing me in this one, even with the less than average screentime. I love Johnny Yong Bosch but there hasn’t been anything too impressive. Nothing bad either but I think it might be more the character than him, to be honest. Hiro just doesn’t give him much to work with and it doesn’t help that Hiro is constantly getting shit on. So he comes off as weak and spineless 90% of the time.

This episode had some things that ticked a lot of my boxes but still nothing special. It’s not bad but not really good either. It’s a decent isekai with mildly amusing characters. Though the protagonist needs some work and I keep hoping that’s incoming. We will see how Hiro does now that the town seems to be in danger. Will he finally get the adventure he’s been longing for?
