English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “Worship Me! Give Praise Unto Me! The Explosive Birth of a Merged Zamasu!“

Is this episode worthy of praise?

Overview (Possible Spoilers Below)

As Vegeta continues to is still give Goku Black his well-deserved ass-kicking in his SS Blue-form, while Goku takes on God Mode Zamasu, that is until Black realizes that Vegeta’s power comes from his anger, Black gives it a shot and re-directs his anger for Mortals and the Gods by upgrading s his Energy sword into a scythe which turns out to be strong to the point that it rips the fabric of reality. It’s even more shocking that not even Black himself knows what he did. While Future Zamasu is talking trash about how tough gods are, Goku socks him one which I found to be a fun moment.

At some point during the scuffle, The rest of the episode is spent on multiple storylines at once, as the battle progresses from 2 on 2, to Black vs Goku and Vegeta, as Future Zamasu flies off in pursuit to find Mai, But just when you think things seem decidedly bleak, The magic Containment Wave Jar is now fully assembled and properly glued together. There is a very funny scene here where Future Trunks is doing Power Ranger-like poses to try and perform the Containment Wave and despite Goku having enough training to know how to perform the trick he’s kinda busy with Vegeta taking on Black as he’s learned some new tricks, while Bulma then remembers she recorded Piccolo doing the move with her smartphone and she shows Future Trunks how it’s really done, while Bulma herself tries to further buy them some time by flirting with Future Zamasu which itself is also a comedic scene.

Unfortunately for Bulma, Future Zamasu isn’t an Idiot and after knocking her out, Future Trunks is triggered oncemore and goes into his new Super Saiyan form while performing the Containment Wave on his first try which is quite impressive and manages to seal one of the two bastards. Or at least that’s what I presumed. However, they forget to put the paper Talisman on top to seal him and to make things worse, Master Roshi calls Kid Trunks telling them they forgot to pick it up which you’d think they would’ve been a priority in advance to get. Because of this, Future Trunks and Bulma fail to contain Future Zamasu and the Jar breaks making this entire sub-plot completely fucking pointless! In the aftermath, Black senses Future Zamasu’s energy has been reduced as a side effect of being stuffed inside that magical pottery. And after rescuing his other self, The episode ends on an intense cliffhanger as Zamasu & Black decide to use the Potara earrings to fuse, and things aren’t looking too good for our Heroes.

Our Take

Well shit, they already had a hard time with just two different versions of Zamasu and now they fuse up? It’s also exactly like Goku to make such a monumental mistake in forgetting the Damn seal. And I am amazed that Trunks managed to learn that specific technique in a matter of minutes compared to Goku who learned it for a day even worked on a Zamasu even with his “God-Mode” powers. The fact that the Containment technique established two episodes ago, not only made everything it built-up on the idea pointless, but all the more unpredictable. It will be interesting to see how this story arc concludes.

Overall, a good episode and I kinda saw the Zamasu fusion coming as a last resort between the two. While the concept of Fusions wasn’t anything new due to the idea being introduced during the Buu Saga of DBZ, It foreshadowed this in a number of ways. I’m also very curious if the combined efforts of Goku and Vegeta will be enough to take on this fusion of two genocidal douchebags.
