English Dub Review: Doreiku the Animation “Fall”

To creepers out there, stop giving sweets to children that you don’t know!

Overview (Spoilers below)

The first half of the episode was a recap of Ryuuo’s backstory as told by Ryuuo himself, but was pretty much the same thing we learn from Julia’s perspective with some extra details that really didn’t deserve the ten minutes that it was given.

We also bear witness of the random encounter that our favorite Shota-kun* had with Eia, though the latter did not recognize one of her archenemies as a pretty innocent-looking shounen, and even gave him donuts in exchange of book recommendations.

And we also saw how stupid decisions after stupid decisions landed Ryuuo’s suicide squad in Setagaya’s hand when the group decided to rescue Fujiko and Julia on their own since Ryuuo was having his nervous breakdown, middle age crisis and existential introspection, all in one.

O yea, the duo/trio? Of Maria-Zero/Kiyo was assault by yet another new character (who I am hoping is really Yuuga in disguise).

Our take

This episode felt like an honest waste of time. Ryuuo’s segment was unnecessary since we already know what his deal was through Julia’s enslavement episode. Ryuuo falling apart was kind of well done (but not really?) since his emotional support in Julia was gone, his mama issues have not been addressed and now his slaves were lost due to stupid mistakes made from them and his inaction. Oh yeah, his is still a kid so this was kind of expected, right?

I thought that Chou was the smart guy, or at least with more wit than the rest of the cast, but I stand corrected from my earlier assumptions.

And finally, Julia broke under Setagaya’s schooling and managed to become more of a helpless deviant than she already was in the process. An improvement form child molester, I say.

The idea behind Eia’s and Ryuuo’s casual encounter was kind of neat (but not really?) and even that felt bland (putting it kindly) due to the production’s mishandling of the plot development. So much wasted potential! Like pretty much everything in this show has been.

Lastly, Maria’s idea to enslave Zero to free him, and Kiyo, form Ryuuo’s control reeked so much of naivety and desperation that it made have worked, if not for her blunder in getting caught minutes afterward she put the SCM on by yet ANOTHER new character. Did I mention that we only have two chapters left and there is still so many plot holes and storylines to be resolved?

And not Best Girl Sachi in this episode either.

*For those not in the know, this is the same thing as Loli, but for young boys.
