English Dub Review: Combatants Will Be Dispatched! “Annihilate Your Business Rivals!”

Overview:

Six, Snow, and Alice select the members to fill out their unit. Alice sees the sense in selecting Rose the Chimera who apparently has chuunibyou disorder. Also, Grimm an arch-priest of Zenarith is confined to a wheelchair. They sound like a poor pair but apparently, they have the highest kill count of anyone else. How will this group work out?

Our Take:

Between this and Suppose a Kid from the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town? I am probably laughing way too much. I am glad the humor from the sub translates so well to the dub, there are a few liberties taken but for the most part, it’s been the same. The first scene with Grimm is especially hilarious, after Six sees her panties she demands he marry now because she has been “soiled”.

Since I do this for just about every show I review I am going to do it for this one as well. We have our best girl for the series and that would be one Grimm Grimoire arch-priest of Zenarith. I can assure you none of us are worthy, she is one of the funniest characters in the series and her reason for being confined to a wheelchair is too much. Since she deals with curses you would imagine one went wrong and made it so she couldn’t use her legs. That is technically true, she can no longer wear shoes and feels uncomfortable going barefoot… which was a hilarious surprise.

Before I watched this episode I wanted to do some research to see who would be voicing Grimm. When I saw it was Brittney Karbowski I was a little disappointed. Now I love her as a VA, she voices some of my favorite characters, and have always enjoyed her work. I just didn’t think she would fit Grimm too well. I am here to tell you I was very, very wrong. We got to hear Brittney let out her “adult” voice if that makes sense.

She was way more grounded and mature sounding than she usually is and after a few seconds, I was completely sold on her as Grimm especially in the scene with Six. This show has a very excellent mix of newcomers and established talent I really like how they are giving other actors a chance. Brendan Blaber is fast becoming a favorite voice actor of mine and I really do hope he gets more work after this. Now, while she isn’t exactly a newcomer Kristi Rothrock hasn’t had too many major anime roles and she plays the lovable chimera, Rose. I wasn’t too big a fan of Rose in the sub but Kristi brings passion and cuteness to the character I really appreciate.

I’m really looking forward to reviewing this one every week. It is doing very well in localizing the sub well and from what I have read of the light novel it is faithful there as well. I just want to shout out Funimation, it looks like they have started to turn dubbing from home into an art form. We are getting so many shows practically simul-dubbed and it’s impressive and appreciated!
