English Dub Review: Chio’s School Road “Smoke on the Sailor”

Overview (Spoilers below)

Chio and Manana started off talking about innocent topics like lifelong goals, the future, and sex, not necessarily in that order. One thing leads to another, from picking illegal merchandise from the floor, to play with said illegal substance, to play as newspaper girls. In short, another Tuesday.

Our Take

Despite the unwanted panty shots, general digressing and the straight up nonsensical tone of the episode, I was laughing till I could hardly breathe, which is the point of comedy I suppose.

That being said, minors playing with cigarettes, looking cool and sexy while doing it, is not my idea for a kid’s show. Also, there is something wrong seeing a grown up man playing around with a school UNDERAGED girl, on that I agree with Manana’s opinion on the matter. In general, a funny piece with hilarious insanity – or insane hilarity?- and dubious marketing themes are thrown into the mix.  A perfect recipe for weird Japanese comedy.
