English Dub Review: Brave Witches “Good Luck”

You’ll need it.

Brave Witches resumes after “Deadly Battle in the Freezing Cold” with a reinforced and ever-present Neuroi presence. There’s a shape-shifting Neuroi that’s a marker as well. The marker-type Neuroi selects targets, and its counterpoint launches shells to that exact location.

Hikari, Nipa, and Sasha are sent to thwart the efforts of the marker-type Neuroi. Oddly, despite protestations that she’s never been to the town, Sasha exhibits an intuitive navigation of the city. Additionally, she begins recalling memories which she doesn’t remember occurring.

I like the beginning of “Good Luck” which offers a brief look at various witch skills. While Nipa can heal herself, Sasha has an incredible memory. As in past episodes, there’s a good bit of drama in Brave Witches. But “Good Luck” focuses on a different subplot than previous series entries. Sasha continually criticizes Nipa for damaging her flight unit. Yet as the episode progresses, it’s clear that Sasha cares for Nipa.

The interpersonel connections are a pleasant touch. Moreover, I quite enjoyed the marker-type Neuroi. It’s a shape shifting entity which hasn’t been seen before. Yet I’m curious about the Neuroi, and really wish more of the episode focused on the Neuroi: their origins, mission, and pysiology. It’s the first seen of such a Neuroi.

While “Good Luck” delves into more interpersonal interactions, there’s not much about the Neuro which feels lacking. Additionally, there are a few continuity issues. Eventually it’s clear what occurred. But since it’s an animated show, clarity remains contingent on scene changes. Still, it’s an improved episode with less fan service which probes the witches from their skills to relationships, as well as introducing a new Neuroi.
