English Dub Review: Astra Lost in Space “Lost and Found”

We learn that there is another space ship that resembled their crashed “Astra” ship that housed a comatose woman on board. As the group brings this woman back to the Astra, she tells them that her name is Paulina Levinskaya who claims to be an astronaut from the ship “Ark VI”. Paulina also further explains the purpose of her ship before it crashed was that it was intended to find worlds suitable for human habitation, but was forced to crash land on Icriss. When Paullina completely lost contact with the rest of the crew, she resorted to using a hibernation pod to survive. Aries then comes to an interesting conclusion that since the Astra and Ark VI are similar in terms of ship models, that in theory, the ships engine parts could be easily interchangeable since all the Astra needs to work again is an undamaged reactor the Ark VI seems to conveniently have.

While this is going on, Paulina discovers that she’s been asleep for 12 years and it is now 2063.76, but this causes Paulina to panic however she does not reveal why. The ship repairs are a success and the group returns to foraging for food.  We soon learn that Zack, much like the rest of the Astra crew, also has a shitty parental figure and vows to never be anything like his father who was a workaholic jerk who’s obsessed with some weird brain technology, nevertheless joins most of the other characters who all have shitty parents for different reasons, and Zack even expresses interest in becoming the pilot for Kanata’s future spaceship.

We also learn of a private vow that was made between Quitterie and Zack when they were kids, and upon investigation, they learn what really happened to what’s left of Paulina’s crew. As the group finally leave the Icriss planet they plan to hold a party for Paulina. The episode ends when Zack makes a strange discovery in regards to Quitterie and her adopted sister Funicia, which Zack privately reveals to Kanata.

Our Take

This show never ceases to amaze me when it comes to well-timed plot conveniences. Not only it was there another crashed space ship, but out of happenstance the same model/type of ship as theirs that contained very specific parts which were intact after 12 years and are similar to the ones the Astra spaceship needed? Talk about ways to kill the tension but I can’t be too bothered since it’s at least moving the plot forward. With Paulina added to the crew, I think an adult member has potentially added something to the team in a good way.

I’m extremely curious as to why Paulina would freak out about how long she slept and it’s greatly hinted that there was clearly an emergency 12 years ago that posed a great enough threat for her to wonder how nothing has happened in the first place. And if it’s so damn vitally important, why keep quiet about it to the other crew members? Oh and aside from still not knowing who the “traitor” supposedly is, that last twist at the end that Zack discovered, only raises more questions than answers about the two sisters.
