English Dub Review: Ascendance of a Bookworm “Ominous Developments”

Overview

On the way home from Heidi’s workshop, they hear the emergency bells sound through the city as well as see a red emergency flare go up into the sky. Main is worried about what might’ve happened. It is decided that Main should stay home until they can find out what is going on. Main gets to spend some time with her family back home again. After a while, Main is finally allowed back outside and heads to the cathedral. Once she gets there, she realizes Dirk is missing, and unbeknownst to her, there was another threat lurking just around the corner…

Our Take

The discovery of the “Devouring” on the newborn baby named Dirk, the ink-making process, and Delia’s questioning…all seem to like it’s about to fall into place of Main’s responsibility being questioned. Thankfully, Delia would still be able to take care of Dirk, and the ink-making procedure went well to fantasy levels of Heidi and Main being similar in thought which is a good thing when everyone has a common goal.

Being holed at home from a precarious situation meant that Main could see Kamil, but things at the cathedral aren’t better as the High Priest is making secret deals for dangerous nobles to enter the land, considerably putting Main on high alert. This is made worse by Delia and Dirk’s adoption while she was away, and the High Priest taking advantage of this since he can use the clueless Delia to his liking.

Overall, this entire episode was so unnerving. Between the High priest abusing his attendants and showing his true self, to Myne being told about Delia and the high priest and finally that messed up twist ending. I hope things get resolved as quickly as possible since it ended on a pretty damn suspenseful note.
