Another Cartoon Network home release comes out today. Of course, the question is always, “Is it worth it?” Let’s get down to numbers here.

You can spend about $2 per episode, and spend $32 for the same 16 episodes on the disc. Or, you can order it from Amazon for $11, and get free second day shipping if you are a subscriber to Amazon Prime. So, based solely on an expenditure comparison, getting “Frost & Fire” is better than getting the digital episodes.

However, the episodes are all that you get. If you’re expecting anything more, you’re wrong. Just from instant gratification’s sake, I would just buy it from Amazon, Google, or your favorite digital video distributor. Having the disc and packaging taking up space just isn’t worth the money it takes to put it all together.

The two main episodes are “Frost & Fire,” and “Earth & Water.” You also get an episode set in Aaa, called “The Prince Who Wanted Everything,” and an throwback to season four in “Return to the Nightosphere.” Besides the two main episodes, these episodes are all a random collection of episodes that don’t really mesh together.

Whoever put together this batch of episodes should rethink how to put together a DVD release, and put together episode for “Frost & Fire” that have to do with both the title episode, as well as episodes that have to do with Ice King and Flame Princess. This was a mess of a collection that doesn’t do the episodes justice. The best way I can sum things up is this. The way that “Frost & Fire” was handled is akin to how Cartoon Network handles Adventure Time’s time slot. It’s sloppy, at best. If you have to have it in your collection, the price isn’t bad. But you can save space by buying it digitally.
