Cyanide and Happiness has been a web comic ever since the days of LiveJournal and Myspace but have somehow managed to survive longer than both (although I guess some people still use Live Journal) which makes the brand all that much more enticing to a TV network. That said, the TV business is kinda thrifty and the C&H creators are learning that the hard way. You may remember that Kris Wilson posted up on Explosm.net that they were shopping a C&H project to networks and that included Comedy Central, but now according to Rob DenBleyker the guys had decided to walk away from the networks and go about their own business by launching a web series inspired by Cyanide and Happiness. Furthermore, Rob has mentioned what the creators will be launching a Kickstarter campaign to help finance the series.

That said, the obvious thought process could we see Cyanide and Happiness on a Youtube network like Shut Up Cartoons or Mondo Mini Shows?? While that certainly may be possible, don’t count on it as most online networks act the same as TV ones in that they hope to own any copyrights associated with a brand so that they can use that brand for personal gain. Other online networks might give you a channel, but they may or may not finance your project anyway so at the end of the day an already established brand like Cyanide and Happiness could  probably just launch their own Youtube channel and keep all the ad profits.

You gotta hand it to the Explosm guys, they stick to their guns and they don’t sell out. You also have to love their willingness to pass up probably lucrative TV deals in favor of keeping the integrity of the brand in terms of the often uncensored style of the show. That said, if we hear anything else about the new series we will let you know, and rest assured when we hear about the Kickstarter we will post it in our Kick List feature so you guys can keep track of its progress.
