COULD A ‘HELL BENDERS’ TV Series be closer than we think? adult swim? ADHD?? COMEDY CENTRAL???

Web sensation Cyanide & Happiness turned down a TV deal, but it looks like another huge web series could get a pick up. A few weeks back,  Hellbenders co-creator Zach had posted up a cryptic post on their Facebook page saying that could very well happen. After the jump we try and sort through this mess!

For those who might have never heard of the series, Hellbenders is an animated series that currently airs on Youtube and to this day there are only a couple that are posted but that didn’t seem to matter much with TV networks.  The series is given to us by Chris O’Neil and Zach Hadel both of whom were a big part of the huge web series Leo & Satan (I’m actually more surprised that this series didn’t get picked up!) so these guys certainly aren’t newbs at what they do. So when Zach posted up this little snippet on Facebook, we here at Bubbleblabber definitely kept our eyes peeled:

‘Something has happened recently that has stunted our time with that episode. It’s not anything bad, on the contrary, it could be quite good if everything goes well. Let’s just say it means more, longer Hellbenders for you, and them coming out faster on a better medium that isn’t the internet.

So our time is quite preoccupied with getting that sorted and seeing what comes from that. We’re still in the extremely early stages of this, which is why I’m being very vague and wanted to hold off on this, but I thought I should also give you guys an update.’

 

Yea, it had TV written all in between those lines. And to provide further proof the guys were out of town on business a week or so ago they gave us this update:

Chris and I are in L.A. now, and we’ll be here for two weeks or so. There’s no point in keeping it a secret anymore, although we hinted at it in the last post.

We’ve gathered a pitch together for Hellbenders, and are going to show a few people from a few networks what they think. We’ll keep you guys posted on what they say, but if Chris and I slack a bit on releasing stuff, it’s because we’re really occupied with this.

If nothing comes from it, we are totally happy continuing Hellbenders as a web series. We have (what we think, at least) a really cool overall story arc that we’re excited to do, and would be more convenient for us to do these in a faster time frame and with longer episodes.

Annnd the plot thickens! That said, this series is certainly one I would think Chris and Zach would want a whole bunch of creative control over and with Comedy Central missing out on Cyanide & Happiness due to creative and legal reasons, one would think they would be in third place for a potential network. That leaves us to two: Adult Swim and FOX. Adult Swim is rumored to be the front-runner, but could FOX’s ADHD channel make a run? Both networks have experience in developing TV series from popular web properties with Adult Swim doing so with China, IL and FOX with Axe Cop both of whom are set to air with new seasons this year.  You can check out the Hellbenders Facebook page here for any new updates including this one:
