Comedy Central Announces Reimagined “The Ren & Stimpy Show”

Today, Comedy Central announced a reimagination of the Emmy®-nominated cult hit The Ren & Stimpy Show as it continues to double down on adult-focused animation, unlocking and reinventing a treasure chest of IP across ViacomCBS to complement South Park, including the newly announced Beavis and Butt-Head from Mike Judge and Daria spin-off Jodie.

The show joins growing roster of iconic adult animation hits at ViacomCBS Entertainment including South Park and reinventions of Beavis & Butt-Head, Clone High and Jodie and comes as the conglomerate has named Grant Gish as new head of adult animation. Grant’s credits includes spearheading adult animation initiatives at Hulu, FOX, and others.

Our Take

Comedy Central is getting serious with adult animation. The goal for ViacomCBS is to grow their roster of adult animation properties to go along with sister networks like CBS All Access, Showtime, and others, all of which have new and returning series on the way. The last time Ren & Stimpy attempted to stage a comeback it was the awful Adult Party Cartoon, so hopefully the network’s constant toutings of “reimagined” among a bunch of the series returning isn’t something to fear.

ViacomCBS wants new “South Park” movies and specials made by the show’s creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.
