Cinemax Releases Trailer For Mike Judge Presents: Tales From The Tour Bus As Network Goes Dark On Dish Network

We look at both sides and make sound recommendations.

MIKE JUDGE PRESENTS: TALES FROM THE TOUR BUS, chronicling the exploits of legendary music artists, begins its eight-episode second season FRIDAY, NOV. 2 (10:00–10:30 p.m. ET/PT), exclusively on CINEMAX. While the first season of the show spotlighted country musicians, the new season focuses on funk music greats, including George Clinton, Rick James, James Brown and Bootsy Collins. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and Parliament-Funkadelic founder Clinton serves as consulting producer and provides original music for the series.

The problem here? Dish’s 13 million subscribers have no chance of being able to watch the show because as of today, HBO/Cinemax has gone dark thanks to a carriage dispute between the 2nd largest TV provider in the country and AT&T’s WarnerMedia. Like usual, AT&T wants to make more money from its existing install base of TV carriers while those companies want to do everything to manage their bottom line. WarnerMedia is in the driver’s seat because they have direct to consumer options for HBO with HBO Now which doesn’t need a cable login to access and anyone can subscribe to provided they have an internet connection.

This…could be a problem for WarnerMedia. Dish Network is an ideal television solution that allows customers in low bandwidth areas TV access to their favorite channels. Mobile access in these areas is still not great, and anyone who has ever subscribed to an AT&T wireless plan can attest to the already spotty coverage in metropolitan areas across the country, trying to translate that in areas not meshed with wireless networks could see HBO/Cinemax not be made available in a lot of areas that is Dish network’s sweet spots for business. Today, 10% of Dish’s subscribers have HBO/Cinemax, that’s 2 million people not knowing what’s on your subscription networks. WarnerMedia may want to reconsider strongarming in these underdeveloped bandwidth markets.
