It’s a New Year and with it comes new episodes of your favorite shows! Night Sweats continues on in it’s first season with a brand new episode called “‘Celebrities’”. This episode is about celebrities and our fascination with them. Bart and Chris hang out with animated versions of celebrities and we even learn how to protect celebrities on the internet with a new art tutorial. New animated shorts from Don’t Feed the Humans, Crack Duck, World Doctors, and Executioner & Friend.

The first of the cartoons this week is “Don’t Feed the Humans”. Usually closing each episode, DFTH opens up this week and appears to have more time to showcase it’s characters. The episode focuses on themes of love and what it means to be human when a Neanderthal is placed with them. Great for the most part, plenty of character development. Funny dialogue and it didn’t feel like it was rushed to tell it’s story.

Crack Duck this week was probably the best of the series yet. The landlord and Crack Duck seem to officially be a couple, building on what we saw last week. Crack Duck is in turmoil as the demons of his psyche manifest in the physical world through the crack on his head. We learn about Crack Duck’s family, what scares him, and what he thinks of himself in the world. Excellent story, well told, great visuals. The landlord is the first to witness this side of Crack Duck, but isn’t scared away by the terrible images. He just appears to love him more. Really beautiful entry.

This week World Doctors fit the theme of the episode. Our doctors are swept up and brought to Hollywood where a studio executive wants to turn their helicopter incident from a few episodes ago into a major motion picture. The two doctors are played by Johnny Depp and Taylor Swift. Of course, the story isn’t told exactly the way it played out originally. Hollywood has been criticized in the past for diverging from the true story for the sake of entertainment value, this seems to be a nod to that. The Johnny Depp animation was actually extremely well done, Taylor Swift kind of looked off.

Finally, there is Executioner & Friend. Executioner goes away to a torture convention and leaves Friend to do the hard work. Not really the best realized episode yet, this episode did do a good job of showcasing what kind of character Friend is in this world. The shortcomings are in the writing. It didn’t come across very funny. Still a great animation style though.

Overall, a pretty good episode of Night Sweats. Most of the animated shorts were funny and the live action segments were all pretty fun.
