Blizzard Drops You Back in the Wasteland with a New Animated Short for Overwatch 2!

Overwatch has given and taken so much from me during its six years of existence. I’ve gone from curiosity during launch, to four years of hype fixation. Then to absolute hatred and disgust due to balancing issues and development choices, to walking away. Then, when they announced Overwatch 2, I was cautiously optimistic with it, but I’m not sure where to go with it. There has been a slew of decisions, including going from 6v6 to 5v5, that will change the landscape of the game, but we won’t know for sure until the game releases and goes free to play on October 4. Oh, and the best part of the new changes is that Blizzard is going away from the outdated loot boxes, and going to a more standard Battle Pass. Thank you. Finally, Blizzard has made a consumer friendly decision with its games.

Now, for “The Wastelander”. This beautifully animated short tells the story of Odessa “Dez” Stone, and her ascent to Junker Queen. Her family was exiled from Junkertown, (which was the subject of another animated short a few years ago), and they ended up dying. Stone became a ruler of a local town, and ascended to fighter to get back in Junkertown, and take her rightful place as Junker Queen. Then later, she gets to exile Junkrat and Roadhog in “Junkertown: The Plan.”

Check out the new short, and get cautiously optimistic about Junker Queen and the rest of the changes and additions to Overwatch 2 when it releases and goes free to play on October 4.

If you’re new, you can watch the rest of the animated shorts to get a look into the extended lore of Overwatch and Overwatch 2.
