Batman News: The Long Halloween Clip ; HBO MAX Doesn’t Want Him Eating Pussy-Catwoman

HBO MAX sure has been increasingly showcasing constraints on it’s adult animation as of late. A few weeks ago it was announced that The Prince was being delayed out of respect to the late Prince Andrew. Now, we’re learning via Variety that HBO MAX is NOT a fan of Batman getting his share of Selina Kyle’s cash and prizes in a new interview featuring Harley Quinn show creators Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, the co-creators recently got a specific network note when pitching a sex scene featuring Catwoman and Batman ahead of the show’s third season premiere which is slated to drop this Fall.

“It’s incredibly gratifying and free to be using characters that are considered villains because you just have so much more leeway,” says Halpern. “A perfect example of that is in this third season of ‘Harley’ [when] we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can’t do that. You absolutely cannot do that.’ They’re like, ‘Heroes don’t do that.’ So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?’ They were like, ‘No, it’s that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It’s hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.’”

(In fairness to DC, both Halpern and Schumacker went on to say that the company has been remarkably supportive of their series and has allowed them to push the envelope numerous times. Still, it remains to be seen if Batman and Catwoman will be shown engaging in some bedroom antics in Season 3 or if it will simply be implied via cunning linguistics.)

Our Take

I’ll never forget going to San Diego Comic-Con and the crowd gasping at the sight of Batman having sex with Batgirl in the feature-length adaptation of The Killing Joke and I wonder in this society of increased political correctness that if that scene had gone forward someone would’ve had a problem with it. That isn’t to say that the scene should no have been produced, but I can see why that could’ve caused an issue. This is the same streamer that’s putting warning labels on Gone With The Wind and took away Yosemite Sam’s guns (happy as hell that he gets them back in the upcoming Space Jam sequel). Fortunately, Batman will also be a part of the upcoming feature-length adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween of which you can see a clip for below. Batman is very much a hero, but according to HBO MAX, not the one Catwoman needs right now.
