Award News Round-Up: FOX Toons ; Golden Globes

Why even bother?

Award seasons is upon us with the Annies setting up their noms, the Golden Globes and WGA West awards have done the same. For the Golden Globes, Isle of Dogs continues it’s hot steak with a nom for Best Animated Feature, while FOX series Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers were all nominated for WGA West Awards for best animated series on television.

Both noms continue to show aging trends in industries that will soon be disrupted with the continuing onslaught of content. For the Golden Globes, Isle of Dogs, a decidedly not kids movie, is lumped in with a number of kids movies for best animated feature where as the WGA West Awards judges clearly lack cable TV or streaming services and thereby have no idea about other adult animated series in the industry which is odd considering that we’re at the start of a boom that will be ever-growing in the near future. The Annies don’t have it right either, so it appears we’re heading into another year of slow change on the awards front.

Fortunately, our Year End lists are nearly complete, way more accurate, and you should keep checking back as those get released in the coming weeks.
