AniDom Renewal News: Updates On 20th Television Animation Series And More

FOX’s Upfronts are going down next week in NYC and while Deadline is reporting on the 20th Television Animation renewals being “close”, we have news on other franchises that might not be as close.

FOX’s rock star stable of The Simpsons (season 34), Family Guy (season 21), Bob’s Burgers (13th season), and The Great North (third season) all have new seasons coming Fall 2022, the future beyond that is unclear, however, should be cleared up if not by next week then shortly after. Also, of note, right now Bob’s Burgers seasons 9-11 are the only seasons that feature episodes on Disney’s FXX network, I’m hearing that is expected to change with the next Bob’s Burgers deal where the entirety of the show’s catalog will then be made available via FX Networks and Freeform on first run.

On the FOX side of animation originals, FOX Entertainment is becoming increasingly fond of animation originals of which it owns every aspect of, whether it’s distribution, production, etc. Because of this, Duncanville, which currently splits profits with 20th Television Animation, FOX Entertainment, and Universal, will be the lame duck. I’m hearing FOX is expected to cancel the series, but the producers are shopping it to Hulu (where it does VERY well on streaming) and even Peacock with both streamers having thrown their hats in the ring with FOX for yesterday’s announced Married…With Children animated reboot coming from Sony. Until then, Duncanville will continued to be buried on FOX’s Animation Domination lineup for the foreseeable future, even when the rest of the series finale in the next week.

That said, FOX’s Bedrock sounds closest to being a brand-new franchise coming to life as the network’s website currently has a place-holder page associated with the Elizabeth Banks-produced series still live with a “Coming Soon” tag on it. Other than that, FOX wants wholly-owned franchises, which as of now, include Krapopolis and Grimsburg. The former was expected to announced for premiere for midseason 2022, which has came and went with no announcement, and Grimsburg is slated for a 2023 premiere. Tubi’s The Freak Brothers has been renewed for a second second, the announcement coming earlier this month. Another series that could be on the bubble, Housebroken. The animated series starring Lisa Kudrow is expected to premiere it’s second season sometime later this year, but for how much longer? The series is another 20th Television collaboration that doesn’t exactly have the lineage of the aforementioned series, but is being produced by Bento Box, so as it stands now, FOX Entertainment still owns the majority of that series. FOX Entertainment wanted to close up that 1/3 that it doesn’t own by launching a merchandise line inspired by the series, however, that has hit a snag that we wrote about last year.

Upfronts coming next week, more as it develops. Until then, FOX’s Animation Domination has new episodes premiering tomorrow, here are a bunch of clips.
