Amazon to steal some of that Youtube thunder??

This is an interesting development…and you get paid!

I would say the majority of the shorts we get are from Youtube whether they be indies or big time Youtube nets like Shut Up Cartoons. Having said that not everyone gets paid and the issue is probably due to over saturation of an open marketplace that is opened to the entire world! I mean, just on Bubbleblabber alone we get Youtube stuff from Chile’, New Zealand, Taiwan, and elsewhere and sometimes it can be a bit daunting to catch EVERYONE.  However could help be on the way??

Earlier this week we posted about Marlon Wayans getting in on the online comedy craze and now it looks as though Amazon is looking to do the same. Granted, this isn’t the first time Amazon has ventured into original animated content and despite getting some cool shit none of it really panned out. However, this is a bit different because as The Hollywood Reporter is reporting, Amazon is now looking to get into online shorts. According to the article:

The shorts should be two to 15 minutes in length and can be submitted either publicly or privately. As with the company’s script submission process, there is a 45-day option and evaluation period. Creators of projects added to the development slate will receive a $10,000 payment.

The write-up would later go on to say that these videos will premiere exclusively on Prime Instant Video later this year and in 2014. So, in other words you may have to pay a flat annual fee to view these Amazon shorts as opposed to getting them for free typically on Youtube. Is this something you would want to do? I think the value for Amazon would be to start green-lighting these prime-time animated shows rather than focusing on an already flooded marketplace that costs money to check out. Your thoughts??
