Castlevania Producer Also Wants Animated R-Rated Power Rangers and Dredd 2 Because He Loves Us
This is quickly getting out of control, and we’re all better for it.
Adi Shankar is quickly becoming one of my favorite producers. This week, he dropped the bomb on a “violent as fuck” Game of Thrones-take on an R-rated animated series adaptation of Castlevania which is set to stream on Netflix sometime this year.
Now it seems, Adi has his eyes set on some of your other favorite franchises. For starters, if you’re like me and you’re waiting for a proper sequel of the Karl Urban-starring Dredd, well Adi tells Collider.com that even if he has to animate the project, it’s gonna happen:
If anyone is still wondering, there’s no update on a Dredd sequel, but I’m gonna make it happen at some point. It may not be live-action, but it’s going to happen at some point. There will be more Judge Dredd at some point.
Not only that, but Adi wants to reboot Power Rangers into a “really fucking dark” animated series as he tells Polygon which is good because the rebooted film already looks like trash. The series would be an animated retelling of the first three seasons of Power Rangers, only R-rated and probably a lot more Green Ranger which, let’s face it, was the most terrifying character from that franchise. Shankar says he wants to bring the series to Netflix within the next 18 months.
This comes off Adi’s deal with Maker studios a couple of years back which was a three-picture all digital deal, the first of which was an animated series focusing on heroes from developing countries.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
