Biopic Inspired by Cartoonist John Callahan in works

You think your day is rough?

Variety is reporting that a biopic is in the works inspired by famed quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan directed by Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting) and featuring Joaquin Phoenix.

Phoenix would play the role of John Callahan who is a famed cartoonist with works featured in Playboy, Penthouse, and New Yorker. Callahan got his start in cartooning at the age of 21 after a car accident that left him paralyzed over most of his body but still able to draw as part of his therapy. Years later, TV shows like Quads would exhibit some of the black comedic qualities that had stemmed from John’s work.

John died at the age of 59 but left a lasting impact from his work that is seen in a lot of modern-day animation. As a matter of fact, Quads was one of the first animated shows produced entirely from Flash.
