Review: Squidbillies “Cephalo-Ectomy”

Look out! Here comes a squid-man!

Spoilers Below

The night that Rusty and Tammi created the seed that would become Randy, was a very strange night. Apparently squids and humans can mate and apparently the offspring gets the appearance of the human, and the tentacles of the squid. Who would’a thought it, eh? Being different is never easy in school, especially when you share DNA with invertebrates that usually live in the deep ocean. It’s this difference that gives little Randy the ability to impale his classmates. It’s treated as a bad thing, but how awesome would it be to have extendable tentacles? It’d be the real-life Dr. Oc.

There’s a family battle as to whether Rusty’s son should have the long appendages removed. The only problem is that the operation costs 10 grand. Almost no one in Dougal county has that kind of dough and you know that the Cutlers aren’t the few with disposable income that could afford it. So approximately one-third of Early’s sole purpose of living is sold, one of his trucks on the truck-boat-truck.

The episode was good, although I’m just now realizing a phase that this season of Squidbillies is falling into. A lot of the episodes share the same underlying topic: race. Ironically there is also an episode about a derby race but that’s just coincidence. There is the theme, apparently, this season about ethnicity and inequality. I’m not going to dock points for that reason, I’m just letting it be known that I see the game they are playing. South Park’s last season was held together by constant PC, yet not at all PC, humor. “Cephalo-Ectomy” was solid and ultimately had a good message about how one can’t just change oneself. Or maybe I’m looking into it way too much and the crew just thought it’d be funny to reveal that Randy had squid tentacles.
