Review: Adventure Time “Don’t Look” (S7Ep28)
Spoilers Below
Tonight’s new Adventure Time episode “Don’t Look” was a very interesting metaphor into relationships and the way we see people in the real world. The episode starts off with Finn and Jake searching for a treasure, because Finn wants to be taller (as tall as Princess Bubblegum). However, they find the skeleton of a hermit, with sunglasses. That in itself is symbolic– he had secluded himself presumably because he didn’t like what he saw in people.
Finn was given the same power the hermit had, and he experienced all the strange effects the power bestowed on him. These powers proved challenging for Finn to handle, as they bring out one major aspect of how Finn perceived each character. For example, he saw Jake as a big brother, BMO as an angel, and so on.
What makes this episode significant was its message– Finn had to realize that each thing everyone turned into was only one part of how he saw them, and not just pigeonholing them into one defining aspect of how he perceived them. Each person has many aspects to who they are, and those things are to be cherished.
Finn had originally wanted to be taller, but at the end of the episode, it’s not really a concern. We see how someone’s desire or wish can be something that they’re not ready or mature enough to achieve. I feel like Finn has always wanted Bubblegum to be a love interest, but in this episode, he maybe realizes that they are just friends. But who knows where the writers will take it.
All in all, this episode will take the big AdTi fans back to the first season due to that classic kind of art, and how Finn and Jake relate to each other.
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
