Review: Golan the Insatiable ”On Golan Pond”

Spoilers Below

During a weekend at the Knudsen Family Cabin at Leech Lake, Golan sheds his skin in the wilderness leaving Dylan to protect him for 24 hours. After destroying their way home and Golan being afraid of all sorts of bugs, things get worse when Golan is abducted by a mother wolf. Dylan shows up to make the save, but one of the wolf cubs drinks a sample of Golan’s blood and now it’s a monster! The monster’s name is ‘Runty’ and this fucker’s trying to kill Dylan and Golan, but Dylan kicks that thing’s ass. Golan dies due to his injuries, but comes back to life.

Meanwhile, Carole befriends a Party-Bot and develops a crush on it. This robot feels the same, but when Party-Bot reveals that Keith is trading him in, he asks Carole to run away together. The two end up in a land where a bunch of Party-Bots inhabit, but Carole decides to go back to her kids. But, does Carole have Robot AIDS?

At the same time, Keith Knudsen Sr. wants his son Keith to commit outercourse with Alexis. After getting pants from his dad, Keith seems to not be ready for the occasion due to all of the stress his dad puts him under. Dylan captures the two in a trap which forces them to outercourse anyway. The two spring free, but get caught by another Dylan trap.

Our Take

I would say the first two acts needed a LOT of time to settle in and formulate a bunch of plots, but eventually everything panned out. I kinda didn’t care about the Keith/Alexis storyline and the song was extra annoying, but I liked everything else. The one take away I had with Golan/Dylan from a negative point-of-view is that I would’ve liked a different voice actor for small Golan because that would’ve made more sense. It’s really a matter of physics that when something shrinks, there’s less air, so naturally the baritone stylings of Rob Riggle, no matter how funny, would be moot. In any case, little Golan was adorable as hell, and the character designs for the wolves were very good and scary. This show knows how to do monsters, that’s for sure.

I liked Carol’s plot, and I actually think it could have gone for longer had we just removed the Keith plot altogether and could have been one of the more thought out stories of the year. This was also where we had a lot of our jokes, because Carole even considering to runaway with a robot is a great idea. I would’ve even liked to have hung out in the robot world for a bit, because the robots had very cool character designs that were rather varied whence compared to Futurama and Rick and Morty.

Sounds like pretty good company.
