Review: Assassination Classroom “School Trip time / 1st Period”

A class trip is probably exactly what E-Class needs. The funny thing here is that this is all about finding new and inventive places to assassinate Koro-Sensei. The meat of the episode, however, occurs when the group with Nagisa and Karma are confronted by kidnappers. They tracked the group by stealing the Yukiko’s itinerary for the group. Now, is it me, or do all of the goons look like ugly oafs? This shit gives fat people a bad name.

I have been bitching a bit about how it’s a lot of the same thing with each show. Assassination Classroom finally broke the mold, and went outside of the 3-E classroom. With that, it brings a whole slew of new problems. Most of them in “School Trip Time / 1st Period” revolve around Yukiko. She got kidnapped, yet the kidnappers feel a slight kinship with her, since she was a former poster child for “sheltered child syndrome.” Now, Assassination Classroom broke the lack of cursing in Funimation shows. It fit really well with these wannabe sex offenders.

That said, I loved the script for this. For once, it’s something you would expect from everyday conversations with junior high and high school students. I hate to break the news to you guys, but kids in middle school and high school may say words like “shit,” “fuck,” or “asshole.” It’s about time that was conveyed in something Funimation put out.

I don’t think I can really put into words how different “School Trip Time / 1st Period” actually was. I like, for once, that there were real world problems that these kids had to deal with. Not everything is going to be confined to the cozy setting of a classroom. The only thing I didn’t really like was that Koro-Sensei came to the rescue. I think more would have been accomplished if the kids took care of the situation themselves, considering how they’re supposed to be training to assassinate Koro-Sensei. Koro-Sensei won’t be around to kill himself, now will he?

That slight problem not withstanding, I think “School Trip Time / 1st Period” is probably the best episode of Assassination Classroom, yet. Koro-Sensei went black face on some more people, and we got some back story about Yukiko. But the most important part of “School Trip Time / 1st Period” was that the kids finally ventured out. Just watch this week’s episode just for that.
