Upfronts 2014 Reax: Does TBS want MORE of MacFarlane?
American Dad is moving to TBS later this year (we are hearing Fall) and we knew that already. But, could there be more Seth MacFarlane-produced animated comedies on the way for the cable network?
Now, before you get excited, this note from Deadline.com could go one of two ways. 1) LISA DE MORAES who is the TV columnist for Deadline very well could have been typing these notes in a hurry and may have mis-heard something during the TBS presentation. 2) This is really, real and American Dad could be the proving ground for future animated comedies on TBS. Here is the note in question:
Seth MacFarlane is of the former group and Wright announces more MacFarlane animated comedies migrating to TBS which becomes “the only place to see all new episodes of American Dad.”
This can’t possibly be referring to Family Guy, that show is on 15,000 times a week on TBS, so I think we can officially cross that one off as already migrated over to the network. But, could TBS be getting MacFarlane to exec-produce MORE animated comedies on TOP of American Dad?? This could get interesting. The only one in development that we know of right now featuring Seth as a producer is a vehicle featuring Alex Borstein that was mentioned YEARS ago in an interview with THR, but who knows if he has other ideas?
I remember an old interview (I forget where) when Matt Stone said that the producers of South Park really create new episodes for the purpose of a library. TBS is a network that needs to add to their own library outside of Conan because as of now they really don’t have a BUNCH of comedies that keep me coming back, and animated comedies are a great way to start because if you can get a few to stick you can make a lot of revenue off of not just advertising but merchandise, syndication, and international licensing as well. And who better to come up with original animated comedies than Seth MacFarlane?
So, what say you? Do you want more MacFarlane on TBS?
"There are also other characters that come and go (also owned by the Warner Bros. Discovery conglomerate media company)."
Huh. Is that just referring to other characters from the show itself, or is this implying that the new season is going to have cameos from other WBD IPs
