For years South Park was the defining example of what you do when you do a home release, but for 2013 I am happen to announce there is a new sheriff in town as to who has the best home releases…only these guys ain’t new. This is Robot Chicken and this is the Sixth Season on Blu-Ray and DVD. Forget about the fact that Season 6 was the best season for the series on Adult Swim, forget about the fact that Seth Green is everywhere these days, and then forget about what you think you know about Robot Chicken because no other release this year as exemplified how a well-oiled machine works such as this.

The Blu-Ray costs about $32 when purchased on Amazon, so you get 20 episodes that if bought on Amazon  would cost $30.00. As you know, ordinarily I would ream out a home release for costing more than the Amazon deal, but the special features are SO good on this release that those are worth the price of admission just by themselves. The special features start off with episode commentary on EVERY episode which certainly increases the value, but then you have a SLEW of featurettes that set this release apart from everything else out there right now.

There are two grades of animatics, and those are OK, but unlike most releases where you may only get one or two, the producers of the home release put up a BUNCH and I mean a BUNCH of animatics. The chicken nuggets make a return, but the gravy really is the featurettes. All of them are really good, but I think if I had to pick my favorite ones it would be ‘Who the Fuck is Zeb?’, ‘Making of Season 6’, and  ‘Our First Ladies’.  ‘Making of’ just continues to floor me on how talented the people who make Robot Chicken are and the fact that the talent pool seems to be getting bigger and bigger every year. Along with seeing all of the guest voices, it’s a great lead-in to the ‘They Came to Play’ and ‘ Our First Ladies’ docs with the latter being a great look at Jessica Zao and Rachel Bloom’s important input into the creative process. Actually, I’m going to add to this. Jessica Zao is HYSTERICAL…HYSTERICAL…she makes me laugh in this ‘evil teddy bear’ kind of way where because of how cute she is you wouldn’t expect some of the crazy shit she says, and then she says something like ‘None of the writers in the writers room have even seen a pussy’ and you wonder how the fuck that happened! Rachel Bloom is turning into a bit of a star, as we’ve seen her in Gallery Mallory and she continues to rock the mic and Microsoft Word with her vocal and writing abilities respectively. And how could NO ONE know who the hell Zeb Wells is? Seriously, go on Marvel.com, search his name, then be prepared to spend cash because anything he writes with regards to the Spider-Man symbiotes is solid gold…SOLID GOLD.

Speaking of gold, this home release is as good as gold and is definitely worth your green. If there is only ONE home release you get this year it’s Robot Chicken Season 6, if you want another one, get the RC/DC Special.
