English Dub Review: Black Clover “The War Begins”

The first episode of Black Clover Season 2, titled The War Begins, is an intriguing start to the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. The narrative follows Asta and Liebe as they continue their training, while the Magic Knights prepare to rescue Yami and William Vangeance. There is quite a bit happening, but the episode gives viewers a good idea of what to expect from the battles ahead.

The highlight of the episode is Asta and Liebe’s training with Nacht. He puts them in a difficult situation by forcing them to fight in complete darkness. They soon realise that they need to work together if they want to make full use of their powers. Their progress pays off when they manage to use Devil Union and break through Nacht’s Mana Zone. The introduction of Asta’s new sword, Demon-Slasher, which gives him another weapon to use against his enemies, is also a welcome addition.

Meanwhile, the Magic Knights begin their mission in the Spade Kingdom, where Yami and William are being held captive. Their mana is being used to help open the gates of the Underworld, making their rescue all the more important. Things get worse when Zenon summons an ancient demon to stop the rebellion and deal with the invading knights. Mereoleona’s arrival to face the creature is one of the episode’s best moments.

The episode also gives viewers an idea of the fights to come. Yuno and Langris are set to face Zenon, while Jack and Nacht will take on Dante. Rill and Charlotte are assigned to fight Vanica. These matchups add to the anticipation, especially with the Magic Knights facing such powerful opponents.

Overall, the first episode of Black Clover Season 2 is an enjoyable beginning to the Spade Kingdom Raid arc. Asta and Liebe’s training is the highlight, while Mereoleona’s appearance adds another exciting moment. The episode spends a fair amount of time preparing for the battles rather than getting into them, but it still gives viewers plenty to look forward to.
