Review: Universal Basic Guys “Lake Piney”

Overview

Darren becomes a summer camp lifeguard; Mark and Hank get into magnet fishing.

Our Take

This week we go to the lake with a bevy of guest stars like returning voices Brandon Wardell and Jon Glaser as Darren and the Jersey Devil respectively and then the legendary Adam Devine as the voice of Darren’s new lifeguard boss at Lake Piney. Whenever advertised, Adam certainly delivers and is always a welcome addition to any voice cast with the former Workaholics actor having been featured in Uncle Grandpa and having created the series The Fabulous Freak Brothers which streams on Tubi.

This week’s episode featured rather pedestrian premises that we’ve seen dozens of times elsewhere but overall I still found the episode doing it’s job which is bringing in the post-game laughs. Adam’s role as the lifeguard boss was outrageous and Hank and Mark’s bit digging for treasure came up with some pretty humorous surprises.

Overall, a solid entry for the show and the guest star list is getting increasingly boisterous as time goes on which means the series is definitely making an impact.
