English Dub Review: #I’m Looking for a Zombie “I’m Looking For a Photo Shop”
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Aki and her group go out to find a photo shop to develop the film left in her dad’s camera.
Our Take:
Following the heartbreaking loss of Mikazuki, this week’s episode has Aki and the gang continuing their journey with smiles on their faces. While the anime still has a long way to go to impress me, I did admire the previous episode for highlighting the tragedy of a survivor’s infection amid its energy. But again, I’m not anticipating it to be the next “The Last of Us” or “The Walking Dead” in terms of the genre. However, I hope the balance between comedy and post-apocalyptic action drama stays fun and consistent throughout the season. “I’m Looking For a Photo Shop” aims to achieve this blend, notably through Sakura’s first zombie kill, which unlocks her killer instinct, and the gang’s gas station expedition. Afterward, their true destination, as the title suggests, is a photo shop to develop the film in the camera, hoping to uncover the whereabouts of Aki’s father. But, as before, it isn’t a walk in the park, especially when the zombie ambush resulted in Natsuki’s critical condition.
On the comedy side, the episode offered a few kooky moments that made me chuckle, notably Sakura’s wild side when she uses her flamethrower on the infected. Remind me not to get on her bad side with that weapon. I also laughed at Sakura’s reaction to Aki wanting to eat the deer, which I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes the next social media meme. With these scenes, Sakura could end up as one of the show’s best characters when all is said and done, despite everything else not being as hilarious as her scenes. The episode also tries to give Yu more depth as she becomes friendlier toward Aki about the latter’s father. In a way, “I’m Looking For a Photo Shop” still evokes the heart and stakes of its characters amid its silliness, mainly for Natsuki being bitten by a zombie. It still hasn’t found the sweet spot in this balance, but it’s getting closer to being tolerable rather than annoying.
