Our Take

This time around, we get two short episodes centered primarily on Narumi, taking place during the events of Kaiju No.8 Season 2. These episodes came somewhat out of nowhere, and I honestly thought we were only getting one, similar to the Hoshina episode. Still, Narumi was one of the highlights of Season 2, so giving him a few comedic side stories isn’t the worst idea.

Both episodes are simple but surprisingly fun, especially seeing Narumi’s squad go from constantly giving him a hard time to suddenly praising him, only for him to leave a measly 500 yen to help pay for their meal. The jokes involving Hoshina potentially becoming Narumi’s vice captain, along with Hasegawa being one of the few people who can actually keep Narumi in line, were also pretty amusing. They may not work as standalone episodes without the context of the main series, but as quick three-minute side stories, they do exactly what they need to.

Overall, these two episodes are fun little comedic detours that give us more time with Narumi and the rest of the cast without needing to do anything too important. With two more episodes still left, it’ll be interesting to see what other random situations these shorts throw the characters into, but so far, they’ve been a pretty enjoyable little side quest.
