English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “Strong and Sturdy Feelings”

Overview:

While Akihito’s injury turns into a spectacle, Mizuki grapples with her feelings.

Our Take(Spoilers):

This show is starting to confuse me in a lot of ways. For the life of me, I don’t remember Abikura getting hurt in the last episode. Definitely not bad enough to warrant everyone fussing about him in this episode. He sprained his wrist, and it makes things a little harder to do. Hiyori comes over and helps him with a multitude of things, including washing his back in the bath. This goes about how you would expect it to.

Mizuki is also a conundrum I have yet to figure out. Wasn’t it only a few episodes ago that she confessed that she thinks she might have feelings for Abikura? Now, all of a sudden, she doesn’t even know what having a crush might feel like. It seemed a little jarring that her friends think she might have a crush on Abikura when she doesn’t know what one feels like, even though a bit ago she confessed those exact feelings to him. It makes me feel like I’m missing something or not grasping the show, and this isn’t exactly highbrow literature or anything.

Mizuki decides to go to Hiyori to try to decipher what her feelings might be. As you may have guessed, this is a horrible mistake. Hiyori has been confusing the feelings she has for Abikura with the contentment one gets around their mommy. When Hiyori tells Mizuki this that leads her to start thinking that she feels like Abikura is a brother to her. But when she spends time with him at his house, and her heart skips a beat when he helps her with something, she starts to readjust how she might be feeling.

One thing I like about Mizuki is that they play her up as if she had superhuman strength or something. She constantly rips her friends’ shirts open, and I don’t know if you’ve ever tried to rip a shirt, but it isn’t as easy as the movies make it look. As a kid, she carried Abikura and a bunch of groceries all at once. I don’t know what sort of vegetables she ate as a kid, but they seemed to work.

I love a good ecchi show, but surprisingly, I do like some story progression to go along with all the tits. We haven’t gotten much of that from this show in a while now, and with only one episode left, I’m not too optimistic we’ll get some.
