English Dub Review: Yowayowa Sensei “A Weak and Wimpy Fireworks Display”

Hiyori confesses something that makes Akihito question how she really feels about him.

Our Take(Spoilers):

This show was so close to being a peak romance. Having a student-teacher romance not feel gross or creepy is tough to pull off on its own. But to have it be so cute is another thing entirely. I thought we were going to go into territory we’ve only seen in Domestic Girlfriend until Hiyori “realizes” what her feelings mean. She had to test her feelings with Abikura and his sister, which led her to believe that the Abikuras are her “mommy”. Yes, you read that right, because the two siblings spoil her and help her all the time she is reminded of her mom.

Look… I think we all know what her feelings really mean. She’s falling in love with our boy, but since she has no experience, she hasn’t realized it yet. But she can tell something is going on, and I hope we get more of this. As Hiyori began her various “tests,” I started to feel a sinking feeling. I remembered I was watching an anime that has an ongoing manga. In most cases, this means we won’t make any progress. Once Hiyori declared her findings, I was disappointingly proven right.

I know that most people are probably watching this show for the gratuitous amount of titties we see, but I’d like some heart and plot to go along with the titties if possible. I know I sound like one of those people who says they watch High School DxD “for the plot,” but I’m being serious!

The ending to this episode was slightly jarring as well. This was one of those anime episodes where the end credits play during an active scene. This usually means that something significant is about to happen. This episode ends with Mizuki inviting some of her friends to a club function at a water park. She did this in an effort to get more people to see Hiyori’s good side and help her teaching.

That moment is when the credits begin to pop in, and I thought something really bad was about to happen. What proceeded to happen was bad, no doubt, but anything to horrible, I think. As we all know, Hiyori is majorly clumsy and slips on some water right into one of Mizuki’s friends. Then the episode abruptly ends. I’m not sure what this means, but I can’t imagine Hiyori accidentally bumping into someone can be THAT bad.
