Hulu Lands ‘Detective Agent Derek’ Animated Comedy Pitch

Hulu is expanding its adult animation roster once again. The streaming giant has officially picked up Detective Agent Derek, a high-concept animated comedy pitch that promises to bring a sharp, satirical spin to the classic TV crime procedural.

The acquisition reinforces Hulu’s position as a premier destination for irreverent, creator-driven animated comedy, fitting right alongside platform staples like Solar Opposites, Futurama, and Hit-Monkey.

A Noir Spoof with a Modern Twist

Created as an affectionate parody of hard-boiled detective tropes and over-the-top peak-TV crime dramas, Detective Agent Derek centers on its titular protagonist—a dangerously confident, hopelessly inept investigator who insists on treating every mundane neighborhood minor infraction like a high-stakes, international conspiracy.

Despite his dramatic inner monologues, ridiculous detective gadgets, and total lack of basic deductive reasoning, Derek somehow manages to stumble his way into solving legitimate crimes—usually completely by accident and to the utter exhaustion of his long-suffering partners and police department superiors.
